Watch the proof-of-concept video, then explore the creative strategy and long-term opportunity for developing Clarence into an animated entertainment brand.
Project Overview
Industry: Children’s Entertainment / Educational Media
Project Type: Client Presentation and Animated Proof of Concept
Role: Creative Director, Character Adaptation, Copywriter, AI Content Producer, Sound Designer and Video Editor
Objective: Demonstrate how the client’s existing 2D character could be transformed into an animated character for video and future storytelling opportunities.
From Original Artwork to Animation.
Clarence’s original 2D character design was supplied by the client and served as the visual foundation for the animation.
I adapted the original artwork into a dimensional 3D animated character while preserving Clarence’s recognizable features, coloring, proportions, clothing and personality.
The original illustration and finished animation are presented together to show the transformation from static artwork to a fully animated character.
The Character
Clarence the Cow™, who is actually a bull, is a friendly cowboy, teacher and storyteller whose story begins in the historic mining town of Chloride, Arizona.
His personality is cheerful, curious, encouraging and occasionally a little gullible, creating opportunities for humor, adventure and educational storytelling.
Creative Direction
The concept was developed to show how Clarence could move beyond a static illustration and become an engaging animated personality.
For the proof-of-concept video, I placed Clarence within a cinematic Western environment inspired by his Arizona backstory.
The opening establishes his personality immediately as Clarence runs into town, slides into position and introduces himself directly to the audience. The film establishes his humor, friendliness and potential for future animated storytelling.
Production
Future Potential
This animation was created as a creative option to demonstrate what could be done with the Clarence character.
The concept could be expanded into short-form social content, educational videos, animated adventures or episodic entertainment if the client chooses to develop the character further.
The project demonstrates how an existing illustrated character can be transformed into an animated storytelling personality while maintaining the identity and character of the original artwork.
